The Garden Gang

The Garden Gang is a social enterprise from The Avalon Group working as a three-way partnership between East North East Homes Leeds (ENEHL), an arms length management organisation (ALMO), and Leeds City Council.

ENEHL is responsible for the maintenance of over 19,000 properties and The Garden Gang supplies a range of gardening services for people living in these homes. The areas covered by The Garden Gang include Burmantofts, Richmond Hill, Gipton, Harehills, Killingbeck and Seacroft.

We work closely with Disability Employment Advisers at Job Centre Plus, Mencap’s Pathway scheme and Leeds City College, who all recognise The Garden Gang as a unique opportunity for people who might not find it easy to get a job. Everyone referred to work with the project will receive on-the-job training, usually leading to a recognised qualification. Some will then remain employed by The Avalon Group, while others will gain valuable skills needed to help them into further employment.

Anyone wishing to apply for work to be carried out can do so by contacting the ENEHL helpline on 0800 91 51 600. You do not have to be a tenant of ENEHL to use this service, but we do request a small contribution towards any work. The Garden Gang also carries out work in the gardens of empty ENEHL properties prior to new tenants moving into these areas.
