Sam has been employed at The House of Avalon since May 2011.
Whilst she has worked at The House of Avalon, Sam says she has learnt ‘loads’ of new skills, including taking orders, making drinks and using the tills.
Many of these new skills are transferable to other jobs and independent living. Sam has learnt to use the microwave to heat up soup, and has learnt how to use the DVD to play films in the cafe.
Meeting new people and serving customers has increased her confidence.
Sam has enjoyed working at The House of Avalon and hopes to continue a career in catering.
She says she has made lots of new friends and she is looking forward to staying in touch via Facebook and by texting from her phone, supporting her social networks and literacy skills in to the future.
Earning a wage has also enhanced Sam’s ability to make choices in life, and partake in society more equally. She has spent some of her salary on jewellery which, she says, makes her feel ‘happy’, increasing her confidence and self esteem.
Sam was also one of our gorgeous models at The House of Avalon's Vintage Fashion Show at York's Guild Hall in October last year.
Thanks for all your hard work, Sam. We wish you well for the future.
