Michelangelo's Mates

As part of our growing Innovations Hub, Michelangelo’s Mates is an exciting collaboration between The Avalon Group and East North East Homes Leeds, an arms-length management organisation, part of Leeds City Council, which is responsible for the maintenance of over 19,000 council homes.

Michelangelo’s Mates is a social enterprise that provides supported paid work and work-based training for people with a learning or other disability in the Leeds area. We have our own dedicated training facility where trainees can learn the skills they will need .

In 2009 Michelangelo's Mates won an award from the National Federation of ALMOs for 'Most Effective Partnership'

Completed work is quality-checked by ENEHL and ensures customer-satisfaction with the work done. To date, we have 100% satisfaction from tenant surveys completed.

Michelangelo’s Mates is a sub-contractor of ENEHL and carries out painting and decorating in properties where tenants are unable to decorate through illness or disability, and will in some cases replace the decorating grants issued. We also decorate empty properties in preparation for new tenants.

Referral for people to train as painters and decorators on the Scheme can be made direct with us, through Mencap’s Pathway Scheme or via Disability Employment Officers at Job Centre Plus offices in Leeds.
