Supported Living

The Supported Living Service is an umbrella term for a wide range of services provided by The Avalon Group to support people in the community.

We provide a diverse range of services to help people live the lives they choose. We recognise that everyone is unique, so our aim is to provide bespoke support for each customer. This can help develop skills, confidence and independence, thereby supporting people to achieve their full potential or maintain a lifestyle. Choice is vital; we want our customers to choose when and how they receive their support, as well as which Support Worker they feel comfortable with. All of our Support Workers are carefully selected, fully trained and police checked.

Some types of support offered are detailed below. However, we can also provide tailored packages to meet most needs.

Community Support

This is flexible support that is tailored to the requirements of the individual. Some examples include:

  • Supporting someone at work or place of learning
  • Finding and visiting local facilities such as a swimming pool, gym, library or social group
  • Support to maintain or enhance a person’s life skills
  • Help with domestic tasks and food preparation
  • Assistance with managing money and dealing with correspondence
  • Advising people about safety and security in the community and in their own home
  • Befriending to provide companionship or help people become more involved in social or community life

Supported Housing

We work with private landlords and housing associations to provide housing with or without support. The type of housing we offer ranges from individual flats and houses to shared accommodation (for a maximum of 3 people). The level of support can range from a few hours a week to 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. The support is similar to Community Support but includes additional help with such issues as housing repairs and maintenance or neighbourhood relations.

Floating Support

This is available to housing association or council house tenants in the Stockton-on-Tees, Kirklees and Wakefield areas. Floating Support is usually short-term and provides assistance for people to maintain their tenancies and remain independent in their homes. This could include help with managing money, living in harmony with neighbours, dealing with maintenance issues, and so forth.

Sitting Service (Teesside)

This one-to-one service provides companionship for customers and short breaks or respite for carers in the Teesside area.

We are registered as an approved provider with Supporting People and the Care Quality Commission. 80% of our services achieve an ‘Excellent’ rating with the remaining 20% being ‘Good’.
