Talking Avalon Summer 2017

Date: Aug 31, 2017

Our Summer newsletter has arrived, and features lots of great stories from our staff and customers across Avalon. You can read the full newsletter by clicking HERE.

It's been a busy summer here at Avalon, with many of our customers taking amazing trips and having great holidays, and lots of others achieving brilliant outcomes here at home. One of the events we have held as an organisation was the recruitment of our 50th Shared Lives carer in York. This coincided with National Shared Lives Week in June, and so we threw a party to celebrate, inviting all local carers and the people they support, as well as local councillors and the CEO of Shared Lives Plus, Alex Fox OBE. You can read all about the party in the newsletter.

We've also had some sad news in the last 3 months, with the passing of Margaret Cheetham, who served as chair of our Shared Lives panel for many years, but more than that was a true friend to Avalon, and someone who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. We received a lovely tribute to Margaret from her friend Carol, which you can read on page 3.

At an organisational level we are looking to the future, with an unprecedented modernisation plan to bring Avalon to the forefront of social care's technical evolution. We have new systems planned, and a renewed commitment to reduce our consumption of paper and other materials which affect our environment.

All this and more is included in Talking Avalon. So don't wait, get reading.
