Support Worker, Harrogate Area (H207-Autism)

Start a fulfilling new career with skills you already have!

We are looking for a Support Worker for a new care package we taken on based in Knaresborough for a customer with autism. The customer is a young male who is looking for someone who can support him with his independence as he moves into the next stage of his life by working towards his goals and aspirations.

He is looking for someone who would be willing to support him to regular music gigs as he has a passion for live music, and to enhance his social opportunities by taking part in recreational activities such as bowling and keeping fit in the gym.

Due to the needs of the customer we would be looking to appoint a male support worker as there will be some personal care involved. There will be the use of a Mobility Scheme car so you would need to have a full UK driving licence and be over the age of 25 years old as stipulated in insurance requirements.

The customer currently attends college so during term time the support is required for a minimum of 16 hours a week mainly in the evenings and at weekends. This will rise during the school holiday period to full time with opportunities to even take on extra hours. You would also need to be available on alternative Saturdays throughout the year to provide support. Of course there will be an opportunity to work with other customers here at Avalon during term time when the hours of support with this customer are limited.

You don’t need to have any experience as our in-house training team will ensure that you have all the additional skills you need to deliver the role with confidence but you do need the drive and compassion to help our customers to live great lives.

We do require individuals who can work flexibility over 7 days which will include working evenings and weekends.

Who are we?

The Avalon Group is a well-established, award-winning charity providing flexible person-centered care, support and companionship for everyday life, housing, learning and employment. To do this we need people who are enthusiastic about using their existing skills to help others.

We are registered with local authorities and rated highly by the Care Quality Commission independent inspectors with an overall rating of ‘Good’ across all services following recent inspections.

Due to business growth and an increase in work with existing customers, we have full time vacancies for support workers to work with our customers across Harrogate and the surrounding areas.  Part time hours would also be considered.

Many of our customers in the Harrogate area are young adults with learning disabilities looking for support to live independently, develop their social skills and above all, enjoying some company.

Why work for us?

Our current rate for customer contact time is £8.31 per hour with further enhancements paid for weekends and Bank Holidays, and we pay a generous rate for sleepover shifts.

As an Avalon employee you will get exclusive access to discounts at high street retailers such as Boots, M&S and Sports Direct. You will also be able to join an employee assistance scheme, which is a 24/7 advice service giving you impartial guidance regarding any personal matters or concerns you may have.

*This advert is for a particular appointment with genuine occupational requirements due to the customer support needs.*
