Support Worker, Skipton
The Avalon Group is looking for driven, enthusiastic people who want to make a positive difference to the lives of others and themselves. People like you!
Who are we?
The Avalon Group is a well-established, award-winning charity providing flexible person-centred care, support and companionship for everyday life, housing, learning and employment. To do this we need people who are enthusiastic about using their existing skills to help others.
We are registered with local authorities and rated highly by the Care Quality Commission independent inspectors with an overall rating of ‘Good’ across all services following recent inspections.
We have full-time and part-time vacancies for support workers to work with our customers across Skipton and the surrounding areas. The vacancies currently available require support workers who can commit to evening and weekend work.
Our customers in the Skipton area are adults with learning disabilities looking for support to live independently, develop their social skills and above all, enjoying some company.
What does the role involve?
As a Support Worker you will listen to our customers, what they want to do and what they want to achieve. Generally the support we provide consists of giving our customers access to the community by being involved with activities such as bowling, cinema and trips to the shops.
We are not a residential care provider and your approach will be specifically tailored to the person you are supporting, working towards their goals and aspirations. Some personal care may be involved with certain customers. You will build a great relationship with the people you support, and will see the difference you make to their lives on a daily basis.
Our customers mainly require support during the evenings and at weekends. As there is a requirement to undertake some work over a weekend, this will be on an alternate week arrangement, so some flexibility will be required.
Maybe you are good at cooking, confident managing finances or always on the lookout for fun things to do in your local area. These are exactly the kind of things that can make you a fantastic Support Worker for Avalon.
Of course there are other elements involved in becoming a Support Worker. Our award winning in-house training team will ensure that you learn all the additional skills you need to deliver the role with confidence, so that no previous experience working in social care is necessary.
Being a car driver would also be highly desirable but is not essential.
Why work for us?
Our current rate for customer contact time is £8.31 per hour with further enhancements paid for weekends and Bank Holidays, and we pay a generous rate for sleepover shifts.
As an Avalon employee you will get exclusive access to discounts at high street retailers such as Boots, M&S and Sports Direct. You will also be able to join an employee assistance scheme, which is a 24/7 advice service giving you impartial guidance regarding any personal matters or concerns you may have.
We offer fantastic paid training and the opportunity to develop your career by gaining a Health and Social Care qualification along with progression opportunities within the group. We pay your travel expenses between consecutive sessions of support and we even cover the cost of your Enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) Certificate (which you need to be able to work in social care).
If being a Support Worker is something you think you could do and would like to help make a difference in these peoples life’s please apply – we’d love to hear from you.
