Support Worker (Service Specific), Harrogate

We are recruiting to the support team of a young female customer who is based in Ripon.  Our customer has Global Development Delay and uses Makaton and simple words to communicate. She would like someone who can support her with her independence by working towards her goals and aspirations – could this be you?

Our customer loves going on walks and going swimming so you will need to be able to participate in these activities with her. She is also keen on crafts so if you have artistic talents our customer would love you to share this with her. You will also be continuing with your support to her whilst she attends local day services.

Due to our customer having support needs with personal care, only female applicants can be considered.  This is considered to be a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

This customer is supported 5 days a week, working between the hours of 10am till 5pm so you must be available for work during these times. Of course, there will be an opportunity to work with other customers here at Avalon if you are available to work more hours outside of these times.

You don’t need to have any experience as our in-house training team will ensure that you have all the additional skills you need to deliver the role with confidence but you do need the drive and compassion to help our customers to live great lives.

Who are we?

Avalon Group (Social Care) is an adult social care charity providing person-centred support to working age adults, promoting independence and choice in their everyday lives.

To do this we need people who are enthusiastic about using their existing skills to help others.

Why work for us?

Our current rate for customer contact time is £11.50 per hour (subject to pay review) with further enhancements paid for weekends and Bank Holidays, and we pay a generous rate for sleepover shifts.  We pay travel expenses between consecutive sessions of support.

We will cover the cost of your Enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) Certificate which is essential for this role.

As an Avalon employee you will get exclusive access to discounts on gym memberships and at high street retailers such as Boots, M&S and Sports Direct. You will also be able to join an employee assistance scheme, which is a 24/7 advice service giving you impartial guidance regarding any personal matters or concerns you may have.

We are an award winning charity, offering fantastic paid training and the opportunity to develop your career by gaining a Health and Social Care qualification along with progression opportunities within the group.

Get in touch now by calling 01423 530053 for an informal discussion.

We strive to ensure equality of opportunity for all. We welcome applications from suitably skilled candidates regardless of ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality or religion.

As The Avalon Group meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, all applicants who are offered employment will be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.

Criminal records will be taken into account for recruitment purposes only when the conviction is relevant. Having a ‘spent’ or ‘unspent’ conviction will not necessarily bar you from employment – this will depend on the circumstances and background to your offence(s) and we will consider these on a case by case basis.

The amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provides that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain convictions and cautions are considered ‘protected’. This means that they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account.
