The Avalon Group is an award-winning charity providing flexible person-centred care, support and companionship for everyday life, housing, learning and employment.

We provide support to a wide range of individuals across the North of England. Our customers include older adults, people with dementia, physical, sensory or learning disabilities, mental health difficulties, acquired brain injuries, young people in transition and adults on the autistic spectrum.

Harrogate

Our services

In Harrogate we support a huge range of customers through our Community Support and Supported Living services.

It’s quite a big locality, covering all of Harrogate and extending to Knaresborough and Ripon. We’re a really close team and our superpower is our communication – we start the day with a morning briefing call, set out our priorities for the day, and check in with each other to see how we’re getting on.

We’re really passionate about inclusivity in Harrogate and we do all we can to make sure our customers feel welcome in the office, and hosting a lot of fun social events for everyone to take part in.

Our culture

The first thing you’ll notice when you visit us is the warm greeting you’ll get from Lorraine at the front desk. Her sing-song voice is the perfect welcome.

We’re a really chatty team and we try to keep things quite light-hearted and fun when we can. Our office is full of customer creations, and we have a very special photo wall that we keep updated to help remind us why we do what we do.

York

Our services

In York we specialise in Supported Living, Community Support, Mental Health support and Shared Lives.

We cover all of York and the surrounding areas, including places like Selby.

We firmly believe that a supportive and encouraging environment is the best way to make sure our customers have opportunities to learn, grow and live more independent, fulfilling lives. So in York, we like to host lots of events that bring our customers and colleagues together – all with the aim of building a strong community for the people we support.

We believe in making sure our colleagues and customers are matched perfectly, and to do that we need the right people to be part of our Avalon family. Luckily for any of our new starters, we’re warm and welcoming and there are lots of opportunities to learn new things.

Our Culture

The York office is a warm, friendly and welcoming place.

Our customers are the most important part of our Avalon family in York. We have decorated the office with our very own special picture window. It’s jam packed full of photos of our colleagues and customers sharing special memories together. We think it’s the perfect visual reminder of why we do what we do.

We’re always chatting in the office. It’s a place full of laughter. We’re always working together to get rotas right, to solve problems, and to keep up to date with our customers and our Shared Lives carers.

We’re a really social office – we like to think we throw the best Avalon parties around, all centred on making sure we’re helping our customers make lasting memories.

Doncaster

Our services

In Doncaster we support our customers through our Shared Lives, Community Support and Supported Living services. We’re particularly interested in mental health support, and we’re actually one of the providers of choice in the area. So we try to weave mental health support into all of our services.

We’re really passionate about matching our customers with the right support team. We believe in developing positive, therapeutic relationships with our customers. Just like all of Avalon, we’re a family and we welcome customers into the office all the time. And nothing is more important than supporting people to feel more like themselves.

We cover a big geographical area, delivering support not only in the city, but the surrounding villages too, and that means we’re always looking for more people to join our ranks to help us provide the best support to our customers possible. Working here means you get the chance to work all over Doncaster, supporting incredible people from all walks of life.

Our culture

We’re a really warm and welcoming office here in Doncaster. We love to share our lunch together, either with a fuddle or by ordering food in!

The office is always full of laughter and chatter – we’re a team that works together closely, and we enjoy sharing jokes and nattering while we work. We also have some very entertaining resident squirrels that bring us lots of joy.

Nothing is more important to us than our customers, so we often have visits from lots of different people throughout the day. We spend lots of our time exploring new partnerships to bring even more value to the support we provide our customers, working on rotas and making sure all of our shifts are covered.

Skipton

Our services

Our main services in Skipton are Supported Living and Community Support. Supported living is the service we’re probably most famous for – we plan lots of fun outings and we help our customers build really strong social networks, encouraging them to become an important part of their local communities.

Our amazing customers and staff live all across the area, and come from all walks of life. You’ll find us supporting people within Skipton, across the Yorkshire Dales and in the surrounding communities.

The logistics of the locality is also one of our biggest challenges. It’s a big, rural area and it can mean a lot of travel. And while the area is large, the population isn’t – so recruiting the right people to take the best care of our customers is always something we’re working hard to get right.

To find us, you’ll need to head to the library and enter a little ginnel between it and Harry Garlic electricals. We’re set back there, just behind the electrical shop.

Our culture

When you visit us in Skipton, the first thing you’ll get is a warm welcome from our Administrator, Helena. If her warm smile and offers for tea and coffee don’t have you feeling happy, then the laugh and energy of our Locality Manager, Lucy Price will soon have you smiling.

We go the extra mile each and every day for our customers. We’re a great team and we support each other to make sure everyone feels like they can achieve their goals. We’re really lucky because we often have visits from lots of our customers, who really are part of our family.

Every year we take our customers to Blackpool Illuminations. We all look forward to it and it’s so rewarding to see our customers get the chance to experience the things that we may take for granted in our daily lives.

Northallerton

Our services

Our Northallerton locality covers lots of villages and town across the Richmondshire and Hambleton districts. We deliver services like Supported Living, Community Support, and Golden Days – our specialist day service for older people and people living with dementia.

We’re a friendly team and our office is often full of customers as we run our day service from our large ground floor space. We run lots of events to keep everyone involved in the community and we’re passionate about having fun at work.

Our office has a special wellbeing area for staff and it’s important we all support each other to feel like valuable members of our team.

Our culture

We have a lovely, warm culture in Northallerton. We’re always running special days out, or celebrating events on Zoom. Our office is really customer-focused. We have a brilliant hand-painted tree downstairs that has special hand-written messages posted on it from our customers and staff.

We love to have fun. There’s often lots of home-made treats in our kitchen, we’re always having a chat and a laugh and we have a really bright and airy office that brings a smile to everyone’s face.

You’ll know you’re with us in Northallerton when you hear the piano downstairs playing, smell coffee brewing or you’re asked to top up your hand sanitiser!

Our services

We’re a big locality in Teesside, covering areas like Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar, Middlesborough and the surrounding areas.

We provide services like Supported Living, Shared Lives, Community Support, mental health support and dementia care. We’re a really busy team and we work with a huge variety of customers.

Something we’re proud of in Teesside is the attention to detail we provide. We received a CQC rating of outstanding in the well led category, and this is because team work is such a huge priority for us.

Our customers are what inspires us to come to work every day, and we’re really thrilled to have such a great relationship with so many of them.

Our culture

We’re really passionate about building positive relationships in Teesside. Not only with our customers, but with each other – and with our commissioners.

We put a lot of time into communicating, sharing breaks together and making sure we’re doing the best possible job for our customers.

If you visit us on a Friday morning, you’ll be able to take part in the weekly team breakfast of a bacon butty from Greggs!

We’re fast-paced and friendly, the phone is always ringing and we’re always working hard to cover shifts across our large geographic area.

Scarborough

Our services

In Scarborough we offer our customers support through Supported Living and Community Support. We have a huge range of customers all with different needs, and they’re at the heart of everything we do.

Scarborough is one of Avalon’s bigger localities, and we cover a large geographical area. We’re a really busy team, but we look at every day like a positive challenge. We’re lucky to be able to work and live so close to the wonderful North Yorkshire coast and some of our favourite days include taking walks down by the beach with our customers.

In the summer, the influx of visitors means travelling around the area to support customers can become challenging, but one thing that we put before anything else is the safety and care of our customers.

Our culture

We have lots of traditions in Scarborough that make working here unlike working anywhere else. We’re a really close-knit group and it truly feels like being part of a family when you join us.

From secret Santa celebrations, coffee mornings with our customers, birthday collections to shared lunches and fuddles, we always make time for lots of fun. You can’t visit the office without hearing laughter. We really care about our customers, and they’re often visiting us and sharing a joke or two.

We’re lucky to get to share our days with a lot of wildlife, and we all enjoy the regular sunsets and in winter, enjoying a coffee together with the sunrise! We’re always looking for new team members and we know the best part of working here is the privilege of getting to know our incredible, diverse customers.

West Yorkshire

Our services

Our main service in West Yorkshire is Supported Living – supporting people in their homes with things like personal care, cooking, cleaning and all sorts of activities to live more independent and fulfilling lives.

We also manage 2 short breaks services called Clarence Gardens and Cypress Road, which provide safe, personalised breaks and respite for adults with care needs.

We are really dynamic as a team, which is lucky because the work we do is always changing. We adapt to meet the needs of our customers and are proud to be flexible to the needs of the people we support.

We work across a really big area, with customers in Wakefield, Kirklees and Huddersfield. Because we cover such a large geographic area, travelling across the locality to provide support is one of the biggest challenges we face. But we work really hard to make sure we keep communicating. We’re always looking to add new members of staff to our team, and recruiting the right people to our locality is high on our agenda.

Our culture

What makes our locality ours? It’s our fish and chip Fridays, our teamwork, and the love we have for our customers – we are truly one big family and we enjoy the time we spend together.

When we can we host a lot of coffee mornings for our customers. We know how important is to nourish meaningful relationships, so we try our best to raise funds and host as many parties, events, day trips and holidays as we can. Everything we do centres around helping our customers live fulfilling lives – and we like to make sure there’s a culture like that for our staff, too.

We are lucky to have an open and supportive culture. We work closely together, we listen to each other and we keep our customers in the loop. When you join our West Yorkshire team, you join our Avalon family.
