Do you want to make a difference to people’s lives?

If so, the Avalon Group want to hear from you. We are an award winning social care charity and one of the largest providers of community support and shared lives services in Yorkshire and Teesside, supporting around 800 people with a disability through person-centred support.

We work with the communities we operate to support people to live fulfilling lives. We are recognised by CQC and our customers as providing good services in all registered areas. This is an exciting period for the organisation as it launches its new 5 year Strategic Plan.

What we are looking for…

You do not need previous non-executive experience, but you will be able to demonstrate a strong track record in senior leadership and be willing and able to contribute to Avalon’s Strategic direction. You’ll provide expertise, guidance and governance to a team delivering our vision for a world where disabled people are seen for who they are, having equality, choice and independence.

Ideally we are looking for candidates with experience at a strategic level in Finance, HR and/or Commissioning who live or have close links with one of the areas we cover, and for someone to be available to attend quarterly Board meetings.

The positions are voluntary and therefore unpaid, but any travel expenses incurred will be paid. Appointment will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Certificate.

Would you like to know more? For more information or an informal discussion please contact Emma Williams or Stephen Fox via our reception on 01423 530053.

We strive to ensure equality of opportunity for all. We welcome applications from suitably skilled candidates regardless of ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality or religion.

As The Avalon Group meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, all applicants who are offered employment will be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.

Criminal records will be taken into account for recruitment purposes only when the conviction is relevant. Having a ‘spent’ or ‘unspent’ conviction will not necessarily bar you from employment – this will depend on the circumstances and background to your offence(s) and we will consider these on a case by case basis.

The amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provides that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain convictions and cautions are considered ‘protected’. This means that they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account.
